Legacy Projects > Friends of the Limberlost Logo Friends of the Limberlost Logo

The Friends of the Limberlost State Historic Site approached John Lindsey, birder, graphic designer and owner of Accent Signs & Graphics, Inc., to create a logo. John donated his time and talents to create a logo for the Friends. The Friends have never had a logo to combine the two Indiana entities that they support – the Department of Natural Resources and Indiana State Museum/State Historical Sites. The logo ties the historic 120-year-old Limberlost cabin of Gene Stratton-Porter and the 1800 acres of restored wetlands. A bittern is one of the rare birds that have recently returned to Limberlost. John placed the watermark of Gene’s face on the bittern’s neck. She wrote a book entitled “Moths of the Limberlost” which is why John placed the silhouettes of two Luna moths in the design. The hope is that the logo will become recognizable and encourage visits to the site.
