Law Enforcement Training Board ILEA Seal

The governing body of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and satellite academies is the Law Enforcement Training Board. The board is assisted by an Advisory Council. The board and council are selected by the Governor and comprised of the following members:

Board Members

  • The superintendent of the Indiana State Police, who serves as Ex-Officio Chairman of the Board;
  • The deputy director of the division of preparedness and training of the Department of Homeland Security who shall serve as Vice-Chairman of the Board;
  • The chief of a consolidated city;
  • One county sheriff from a county with a population of at least one hundred thousand (100,000);
  • One county sheriff from a county with a population of at least fifty thousand (50,000) but less than one hundred thousand (100,000);
  • One county sheriff from a county with a population of under fifty thousand (50,000);
  • One chief of police from a city with a population of at least thirty-five thousand (35,000), who is not the chief of police of a consolidated city;
  • One chief of police from a city with a population of at least ten thousand (10,000) but under thirty-five thousand (35,000);
  • One chief of police, police officer, or town marshal from a city or town with a population of under ten thousand (10,000);
  • One prosecuting attorney;
  • One judge of a circuit or superior court exercising criminal jurisdiction;
  • One member representing professional journalism;
  • One member representing the medical profession;
  • One member representing education;
  • One member representing business and industry
  • One member representing labor;
  • One member representing Indiana elected officials of counties, cities and towns.

Advisory Council

  • The special agent in charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation field office covering the state of Indiana, subject to the agent's approval to serve in such capacity;
  • The attorney general of Indiana;
  • One member representing forensic science, to be appointed by the Governor;
  • One member representing theology, to be appointed by the Governor;
  • The director of the law enforcement division of the Department of Natural Resources
  • Any number of additional members, appointed by the Governor.

LETB meetings are open to the public and are typically held on the third Monday of every even numbered month (six times per year).
