Legacy Projects > English Country Dancing at Garfield Park Arts Center English Country Dancing at Garfield Park Arts Center

Dance in 2016, Indiana’s Bicentennial year, like Hoosiers did in 1816! Indy Parks & Recreation’s Garfield Park Arts Center hosts free English Country Dance events. English Country dancing is a form of social folk dance that originated in Renaissance England and was popular until the early 19th century in both Europe and the United States. Dances are directed by a caller. Participants may come in costume or modern attire. Singles, couples, and families have enjoyed English Country dancing for generations (have you seen any Jane Austen movies?) and you are invited to attend. This event aims to engage Hoosiers in the history of Indiana in a fun, interactive way.
