Legacy Projects > Bringing Bison Back to Newton County Prairie Bringing Bison Back to Newton County Prairie

We are establishing a bison herd in the restored prairie at the Kankakee Sands project in Newton County in November of 2016. Bison were once abundant in Indiana, and they are an important part of the prairie ecosystem. The public will be invited to see the herd in its natural habitat and learn about the history and importance of bison to Indiana.
