Legacy Projects > Sugar Camp Days Sugar Camp Days

Sugar Camp Days at Bendix Woods County Park in New Carlisle celebrates Indiana’s maple syrup heritage with tours of the sugar bush and sugar house, horse-drawn wagon rides, music and more. Visitors enjoy historical demonstrations of sap collecting and syrup-making traditions including Native American life ways, pioneer cooking and an operating sugar house, where sap is transformed into golden syrup. Beyond the pancake breakfast, visitors savor a variety of treats including maple syrup sloppy joes, maple cotton candy and maple kettle corn while artisans demonstrate old time crafts such as blacksmithing, rug weaving, chair caning and soap making. Back-dropped by foot-stomping, hand clapping music, children can play with pioneer toys, dip a candle or climb a maple tree with an arborist. Pure Bendix Woods maple syrup is for sale in the nature center and no one wants to miss the legendary baked goods sale where every item is made with maple syrup.
