Indiana Bicentennial Celebration 2016

Legacy Projects > Wilbur Wright Birthplace Signs on I-70 Wilbur Wright Birthplace Signs on I-70

This project will recognize the continuing effort of Hoosiers to maintain and promote the birthplace of Wilbur Wright, co-inventor of the airplane. It shows Hoosier pride in the early inventors of Indiana. Commercial signs now on the east and west sides of I-70 at Wilbur Wright Road will be replaced with new, permanent Indiana State signs similar to the one for the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, if our request is approved and funding is secured. The site receives as many as 7,000 visitors each year. The Wilbur Wright Birthplace and Museum Society has purchased the existing signs for the last seven years, but they will be phased out due to cost.
