Legacy Projects > White County Fifty Trees White County Fifty Trees

The Fifty Tree Legacy Project will identify all 50 native Indiana trees. The project is based on the booklet published by Professor T. E. Shaw of Purdue University that was written in the 1940s for young Hoosiers to become acquainted with Indiana trees. The project is being created by the Monticello Parks & Recreation Department to help populate the Monticello City Park with all “Fifty Trees of Indiana.” The program offers individuals a chance to donate a tree in memory or honor of a loved one, as a family tree, or just to help improve the park, as well as educate participants on tree species and the native distribution of these trees in Indiana.
