Yorktown Fire Department
The Yorktown Fire Department (YFD) has protected Yorktown and Mt. Pleasant Township since 1913. It is an all‑volunteer agency with roughly 30 members who cover 30 square miles and serve more than 11,000 residents. While its primary mission is firefighting, YFD responds to a wide range of emergencies, including:
- Emergency medical calls and water rescues
- Structural collapses, rope rescues, trench collapses and confined‑space emergencies
- Hazardous‑materials incidents and vehicle accidents
- Fire investigations, safety inspections and public‑education events
- Smoke‑detector installation and welfare checks
YFD members train to the same standards as full‑time firefighters and paramedics, and the department runs hundreds of calls each year—most of them medical or rescue‑related. Volunteers come from within Yorktown and surrounding communities and include both career firefighters from other departments and residents with no prior experience. The firehouse also hosts community outreach programs and relies on donations to support operations.
