Public Works Overview
Your local government oversees the operation and maintenance of the Town’s essential infrastructure, ensuring residents and visitors enjoy a safe and healthy environment through street maintenance, water distribution, storm and sanitary wastewater collection, and upkeep of Town facilities.
Streets Department
Yorktown’s Street Department maintains roughly 60 lane‑miles of public roads and streets. Services include:
- Snow plowing and pothole repair – crews clear snow and ice and repair chuck holes year‑round.
- Limb and branch removal – collection of storm‑damaged limbs and branches is provided as needed.
- Road surface maintenance – the department secures contractual services for road surfacing, crack sealing, slurry sealing and striping.
- Stormwater maintenance – street department employees help maintain the stormwater collection system and oversee related contracted services.
Water Department
The Water Department supplies clean, safe drinking water to more than 5,000 customers. Staff members are state‑licensed and operate four wells, three elevated storage towers, and over eighteen miles of water mains. The department monitors water quality and publishes annual Consumer Confidence Reports. Customers can contact the Field Operations Building (2400 Russ St.) with questions or service issues; the office is open 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
Wastewater (Sewer) Department
The Field Operations Department maintains and operates Yorktown’s sanitary and storm wastewater collection systems. Sanitary wastewater flows to the municipal wastewater treatment plant at 2201 West St., which provides secondary treatment for the town and also processes waste from the Delaware County Regional Wastewater District under contract. Stormwater collected from the town’s system is discharged into county drainage ditches and local waterways such as Buck Creek and White River. The department handles system maintenance and offers inflow/infiltration inspections and other services.
