Weekly Trash Collection
The Town of Yorktown contracts Best Way Disposal to pick up residential trash once per week. Each household receives two large totes; all household trash must be placed inside these totes. If you need a replacement tote or have scheduling questions, call Best Way Disposal (800) 745‑5714. Residents on the far northeastern side of town are served by the Muncie Sanitary District; check your bill to confirm which service applies to you.
Curbside Recycling
Yorktown provides curbside recycling once a week. Accepted items include plastics numbered 1–7, glass containers, steel/tin/aluminum/bi‑metal cans, and paper or cardboard products. Labels do not need to be removed, but please rinse and flatten cans to save space. Place recyclables in the town‑issued blue bin on your designated recycling day.
Large Item (Bulk) Pickup
Yorktown holds Community Clean‑Up days, typically each spring and fall, to help residents dispose of large items that will not fit in the regular trash tote. Follow the Town's Facebook Page for pickup dates and information. On these dates Best Way runs special routes beginning at 6:00a to collect large non‑hazardous household items placed curbside, such as furniture or mattresses. There is no additional charge for residents who already pay for Best Way trash service. Hazardous materials—including tires, appliances containing freon, electronics, paints and liquids—are not accepted curbside; these items may be dropped off at the Field Operations Building (2400 Russ St.) during the Clean‑Up event hours (usually 10 AM–2 PM). Secure document shredding is also offered at the same location during those hours. Watch the town’s website and social media for announcements of clean‑up dates and further instructions. Holiday Trash Calendar
The town’s trash service follows a holiday calendar provided by Best Way. In most years, regular collection is delayed by one day when the following holidays fall on a weekday:
- New Year’s Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
If a holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday, service usually remains on its normal schedule. Residents should place totes at the curb by 6 AM on the adjusted pickup day and make sure lids are fully closed. For Christmas and New Year’s weeks that fall entirely on weekends, Best Way typically maintains its normal routes. Because exact dates and adjustments can vary year to year, Yorktown publishes a Holiday Trash Schedule in the Document Center of YorktownIndiana.org. Missed Pick‑ups and Service Issues
If your trash or recycling was not collected, or you discover broken or missing totes, contact Best Way at (800) 745‑5714 as soon as possible. For billing questions or to establish service, call the Yorktown Utility Office at (765) 759‑8521. Remember, trash and recycling must be set out by 6:00a on the day of collection to ensure pick‑up.
