Ground Protection Mats

This INDOT innovation uses durable ground protection mats to give crews safer and more reliable access to off‑road work areas. Soft, wet, or uneven terrain often delays maintenance and construction activities, especially when crews need to reach cable barrier systems, bridges, or locations where heavy equipment cannot safely travel.
The mats create a stable surface that prevents rutting, protects vegetation, and minimizes soil disruption. They are lightweight, easy to install, and made from high‑density polyethylene that is fully recyclable. Their strong, non‑slip design supports heavy loads and removes the need for temporary gravel.
By improving access and reducing environmental impact, the mats help crews work more efficiently and safely. They also reduce downtime caused by weather related delays, allowing critical repairs such as safety cable barrier restoration to be completed sooner.
