Broadcast Sprayer

This INDOT innovation introduces a versatile broadcast sprayer that makes applying bridge sealant and other treatments faster, safer, and more consistent. The spray arms adjust to cover full lanes or narrow shoulders, and the height can be set for proper application. The system mounts to any vehicle with a 2‑inch hitch, collapses for transport, and can be installed or removed in under a minute.
Built entirely from parts already found in INDOT maintenance inventory, the sprayer is easy to maintain and cost‑effective. A simple switch in the cab controls the spray bar, allowing crews to treat surfaces by driving the lane rather than using hand pumps or Hudson sprayers.
The result is a major reduction in labor, time, and material waste. Crews experience less physical strain, motorists face fewer lane closures, and teams can complete more work in a shift. As one crew noted, the system allowed them to finish four additional bridges in a single night.
