Spinner Handle
Bolted Salt Spinner Handle
Submitted by: Michael Brinker (Greenfield District)
This INDOT innovation adds a bolt‑on carrying handle to salt spinners, allowing crews to lift and transport the unit by a stable handle rather than the spinner disk, which rotates easily and can be difficult to grasp. This simple improvement makes carrying and mounting the salt spinner safer, more controlled, and more efficient, reducing the risk of strain and improving overall handling during winter operations.

Welded Salt Spinner Handle
Submitted by: Chad Pearson (Greenfield District)
This INDOT innovation adds a welded second carrying handle to salt spinners, allowing crews to lift and carry the unit without relying on the spinner disk, which rotates easily and can be difficult to grip. The added handle provides a stable, secure point of contact that makes transporting and mounting the spinner safer, more controlled, and more efficient. This simple upgrade reduces strain on employees and improves overall handling during winter operations.
Salt Spinner Drop Mount
Submitted by: Patrick Williams & Michael Brinker (Greenfield District)
This INDOT innovation uses a salt‑spinner drop mount that lowers the spinner by five inches, positioning it closer to the road surface for improved material placement. By aligning the spinner closer to the pavement, salt is spread with less bounce and scatter, resulting in more accurate coverage and better overall efficiency during winter operations. This adjustment enhances performance, reduces waste, and supports more precise treatment of roadways.
