Low Clearance Alarm Bar
This INDOT innovation improves safety around overhead doors and structures in maintenance facilities. The low‑clearance alarm bar system, known as the Watchman, is installed in front of garage doors, warehouse doors, racking, or other fixtures where a vehicle or equipment could accidentally strike an overhead obstruction.
When a vehicle makes contact with the Watchman’s hanging tube, the system activates loud audible alarms and flashing red lights, warning the driver to stop immediately. The alarm sounds at 105 decibels, and the lights can be set to flash for either 4 or 8 seconds. The system operates on a standard 115‑volt power supply and includes preassembled tubes with eye bolts for easy installation.
By alerting drivers before damage occurs, the low‑clearance alarm bars help prevent costly repairs, protect facility infrastructure, and enhance the overall safety of INDOT operations.
