Welcome to the INDOT Long Combination Vehicle (LCV) information page
Operation of Long Combination Vehicles (LCVs) are permitted only on the Indiana Toll Road. Permitting requirements are detailed under Title 135, Article 2, Rule 7 & 8. Please see: http://iac.iga.in.gov/iac//iac_title?iact=135.
Both long doubles and triples (LCV – Longer Combination Vehicles) need to have an Indiana Toll Road (ITR) gate permit to travel outside of the ITR. With an ITR gate permit, long doubles can travel up to 15 miles to get to their destination or to the nearest break-up lot, (excluding the interstate).
Triples must break up at an official designated break-up lot within the 15 miles. If their destination is not at an official break-up lot within the allowed 15 miles, they will still have to break up their combination at an official break-up lot before traveling to their destination. LCVs cannot travel anywhere without a gate permit.
LCV tractors are required to have a permit certification card with it and a permit number on the driver side of the unit. Tractor permits do not expire. Note: Permits may be revoked.
A copy of the LCV tractor application can be found here.
LCV drivers are also required to have a permit certification card carried on his/her person. Driver permits expire on the date identified on the permit card.
