National Guard Supplemental Grant (NGSG)

State Tuition Assistance includes the National Guard Supplemental Grant (NGSG) and the National Guard Extension Scholarship (NGES). Both programs are administered by the Indiana National Guard and are open to all INNG soldiers and airmen wishing to further their education. Each program has specific eligibility criteria. Please review the information below before applying for assistance.

National Guard Supplemental Grant (NGSG)

The National Guard Supplemental Grant (NGSG) guarantees that up to 100 percent of certain tuition costs will be met by the state of Indiana for eligible members of the Indiana Air and Army National Guard. All applications will be filled through the Indiana Commission for Higher Education’s ScholarTrack website. The NGSG is applicable only for distance learning, online, correspondence and classroom courses at state-funded colleges and universities.

  • Eligibility Criteria
    • Enrolled part-time (3-11 semester hours) and full-time (12-15 semester hours)
    • File the free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) so that it is received by March 10 and error-free by May 15 of each year service member intents to enroll in college Federal Student Aid application(FAFSA).
    • Be a high school graduate (including home-schooling) or have a GED.
    • Must be an Indiana Guardsman before applying for NGSG
  • Restrictions
    • Only available for fall and spring semesters
    • Only applicable to a student’s first degree of that level up to Masters
    • Does not cover room, board or textbooks
  • Termination

    The Indiana National Guard reserves the right, in cooperation with the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE), to revoke for cause the NGSG at any time.

Eligibility Criteria


  • Have not exhausted four years of eligibility for other tuition assistance programs
  • Were in good standing upon leaving the Guard; i.e., honorably discharged
  • Applied for and used a National Guard Supplemental Grant (NGSG) prior to termination from the Guard
  • Complete a free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 10 and make any necessary corrections by the May 15 receipt date deadline *will be pro-rated*

Period of Eligility


  • One year from their termination date to turn in the Application form and a copy of their DD214 and NGB Form 22- for example, discharge date of 2022-12-23 must apply before 2023-12-23.
  • Must have deployed and/or had state active duty (SAD) time, for example, Hurricane Katrina or COVID duties.
