The Transition Assistance Advisor (TAA) initiative was launched in 2005 by the National Guard Bureau, which signed an agreement with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to provide assistance to service members who are transitioning from active service. The Indiana National Guard’s TAA program provides service members and veterans with compassionate and experienced professionals who help with accessing VA benefits and healthcare services.
In addition to coordinating with the VA, TAA coordinates with TRICARE, Veteran Service Organizations and other federal, state and community resources to help service members who are transitioning from active duty, including those who are wounded, ill, injured, medically separating, ending their time in service or retiring. We brief and advise service members and their families during mobilization and demobilization about available benefits and community resources, and we research and resolve issues whenever service members and their families encounter problems.
