Community Canopy Summaries

Understanding the extent of a community’s tree canopy is an important element in urban planning. Urban tree canopy maps can be used to help quantify the benefits that their trees can provide, identify where new planting would have the greatest impact and to develop priorities and strategies for expanding the canopy.

The following community urban tree canopy summaries have been generously created by the Chicago Region Trees Initiative (CRTI). They provide a tree canopy baseline for each community as it existed in 2010. We hope to update these summaries in the near future when new LIDAR imagery and land cover data become available.
