Correctional Training Institute

Located in New Castle, the Correctional Training Institute serves as the headquarters for the Department’s Division of Staff Development and Training. The Correctional Training Institute offers 10 modern classrooms, computer lab, participant lodging, and other accommodation for our guests.

General Information

The following information is to assist you with questions you may have while planning and or attending training at the Correctional Training Institute.

SD&T Registration and Cancellation

Register for classes by contacting your Facility Training Department, Regional Training Manager, Regional Training Specialist, or through established methods at your Facility/District. If you are registered for a program, you are expected to attend. Your facility training department should be notified as soon as possible of any cancellations so that others can have the opportunity to attend.

Dress Code

Participants and visitors are expected to follow IDOC Grooming and Dress Policy/Procedure guidelines when attending training programs, Due to the nature of certain programs, there will be exceptions. When a program deviates from the Dress Policy participants will be notified in advance by the Program Dean.

Training Classes - What to Bring

The following is a list of items you will need to bring while attending classes:

Pen, Pencil, Pad of Paper, and Highlighter. Additionally, bring any materials that may have been provide to you in advance of the program (e.g., Lesson Plans, Study Manuals, Participant Manuals, etc.). You will be notified in advance of any specific program requirements.

Lodging

Lodging requests must be submitted through the Facility Training Coordinator, Program Dean, or Regional Training Manager. Staff Development and Training will make every attempt to provide lodging for all training participants, when appropriate. If there is lodging available, you will not be reimbursed for out-of-pocket lodging rooms are assigned in the order they are received. Preference requests will be considered but are not guaranteed.

  • Participants are responsible for keeping their room always locked and personal items always secured.
  • On the last day of your stay, your personal items must be removed from your room and your key turned in prior to the start of your program.
  • The following is a list of items you may wish to bring while lodging at CTI:
    • Towels/Washcloths, Facility ID Cards, Non-Electric Alarm Clock, and Personal Hygiene Items (soap, toothpaste/toothbrush, deodorant, etc.)
The Correctional Training Institute is accessible to all program participants and visitors. If you will need any accommodations to assist you during your stay or attendance in a program, please communicate this with your Program Dean.

Emergency Plans

The Division of Staff Development and Training takes all our guests' safety and wellbeing seriously. Our staff are trained and prepared to respond to any situation that may arise during your time with us. In the event of an emergency please notify any SD&T employee and follow all instructions provided by our staff.
