Command Sergeant Major Brian Zirkelbach has 32 years of service in the U.S. Army and the Indiana Army National Guard. He served as the Command Sergeant Major of the 54th Security Force Assistance Brigade from June 2020 to September 2023 and concurrently was the Indiana National Guard J3 Operations Sergeant Major from December 2021 to October 2023.

Previous assignments in the INARNG include CSM for the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team; CSM for the 1-151st Infantry Battalion while it was affiliated with the 25th Infantry Division in the Associated Unit Program and CSM of the Individual Redeployment Operations (IRDO) at Camp Atterbury, IN. While a member of the INARNG he has been assigned to C Co. 2-151 INF, B Trp. 1-152 CAV, 1-138 RTI, B Co. 1-152 INF and 1-163 FA.

Prior to joining in the Indiana Army National Guard in 1996, he served in the Regular Army from 1990 to 1996, assigned to B Co. 2-16 INF, Ft. Riley, Kan., HHC 1-5 INF, Camp Hovey, Republic of Korea and B Co. 2-7 INF, Ft. Stewart, Ga.

He has more than 10 years of civilian employment working in commercial banking with a focus in loan review, credit analysis, commercial loan workout and management of secured credit administration and small business problem loan resolution functions.

His military schooling includes the Army Strategic Education Program’s Nominative Leader Course, the Sergeants Major Course and First Sergeants Course. He has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Southern Indiana and a Master of Business Administration from Butler University.
