  • Tunnel Tours
Health and Wellness Council and Office of Performance Excellence host monthly tunnel tours

Whether you are new to the tunnel system, want an alternate route to and from the office during the winter months, or want to stay active during breaks, this is an excellent opportunity to get those steps in!

The Office of Performance Excellence has partnered with the Health and Wellness Council to offer a monthly walking tour of the state tunnels. Our next walking tour will be on Tuesday, February 27th, 2024, from 12:00-1:00 pm. Anyone interested in participating can meet the Council in the 2 North lobby by the front desk at 11:55 am. We are actively working on calendar holds for the remainder of the year, so stay tuned for more details!

This tour will leave from 2N and enter at the NW corner of Illinois and Washington (i.e., Panera) under the Arts Garden. The tour will take the escalator down and walk the systems, taking you to the Statehouse, Government Center South, Government Center North, and the State Library. These tunnels also directly connect to Government Center South and North garages, which will be pointed out along the tour.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with Mia Brewer at MBrewer@health.in.gov or Lindsey Bouza at LBouza@health.in.gov.

    Why walk during the day?

It can help improve productivity and focus to take breaks throughout the day.

    • IDOH Contractor and State Employee break time policy allows for breaks of less than 20 minutes as part of the regular work day, if they are allowed by supervisors.
      • In the link above, people can go to the “Determining Hours Worked” section and read about break time regulations.
      • Breaks are not required, but if they are provided:
        • A break of less than 20 minutes with no work performed is compensable as part of the regular work day.
        • Such breaks can be scheduled if necessary to ensure proper coverage and keep offices open for the public and to monitor usage.
    • These walks can also help State employees meet their Daily Step goal for the Active Health incentive if they are choosing to sync their watch.

  • Bike Room

IDOH 2N has secured bike parking for those who would like to commute to work by bike. The storage room is located in the alley between the 2N building and Windsor Jewelers (just north of the 2N building). Please contact Administrative Services to gain access to this storage room as you will need to sign out a key, by emailing AdminServices@health.in.gov.

Shower facilities are available in the basement locker room/restroom area close to the snack bar. If you would like a locker, please contact Administrative Services, AdminServices@health.in.gov.

  • Fitness Center

The IDOH 2N Fitness Center is available from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on workdays; however, your assigned building access will determine when you can enter the front door of the building. The Fitness Center can be used before or after work, during breaks or during lunch.

You must sign a Fitness Center Release Form before using the Fitness Center. You will be notified when your I.D. badge has been activated to include access to the Fitness Center.

    Guidelines
    • You must sign in/out (in the 3-ring binder) each time you use the Fitness Center.

  • Microsoft Teams Channel

The Health and Wellness Council has a Teams Channel to share recipes, restaurants, farmers' markets, and any food-related ideas. We wanted to create a community where those ideas can be shared. Typically, a Health and Wellness Council member will post once a month with a new recipe. Then, everyone can feel free to share any recipes or food ideas that come up during the month.
