Redkey Water Department: Protecting Our Town’s Most Vital Resource
The Redkey Water Department is proudly led by the dedicated team of Ted Kolodka and Seth Fugiett, who have joined forces to ensure our residents have access to clean, safe drinking water every day of the year. Together, they manage the critical systems that support Redkey’s water quality and infrastructure — a responsibility that spans 24 hours a day, seven days a week. By sharing the weekend workload, Ted and Seth maintain a consistent, reliable approach to water management and safety.
Under their leadership, the department has introduced innovative tools like the Asset Status Tracker (AST™) software, which helps the town efficiently manage and monitor assets such as water
systems, document maintenance and testing activities for fire hydrants and water valves, sewer lines, and other critical infrastructure. Additionally, with the rollout of Smart Water Meters and the installation of a powerful antenna to read the meters, Redkey now benefits from automatic, wireless tracking of water usage, improving both accuracy and efficiency for residents and the town alike.
With Ted’s extensive expertise in utilities and Seth’s strong, hands-on approach, this team is working hard every day to safeguard Redkey’s drinking water and maintain the integrity of the town’s essential systems, ensuring a healthier, stronger future for our community.
Water Works Wonders!
The Water Department is equipped with multiple redundant systems, allowing for seamless operation and continued service in the event of a component failure. Redkey’s water tower holds an impressive 200,000 gallons of fresh, clean water. Every day, between 70,000 to 100,000 gallons are pumped up into the tower to keep our town flowing. That means even in an emergency, Redkey could have enough stored water to supply residents for two to three days — a true testament to the hard work behind the scenes keeping our taps running!
