Communicable Diseases

Protecting the Health of Henry County Residents

The Henry County Health Department tracks, investigates, and helps prevent the spread of communicable diseases in our community. Our team works closely with healthcare providers, schools, and the Indiana Department of Health to monitor disease outbreaks and ensure timely response and education.


What Are Communicable Diseases?

Communicable diseases are illnesses caused by viruses, bacteria, or other pathogens that can be spread from person to person, animal to person, or through contaminated food, water, or surfaces.

Examples include:

  • Tuberculosis (TB)
  • Hepatitis A, B, and C
  • Measles
  • Mumps
  • Pertussis (Whooping Cough)
  • Meningitis
  • COVID-19
  • Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
  • Foodborne illnesses
  • Influenza
  • MRSA

What We Do:

  • Investigate and follow up on reported disease cases
  • Notify individuals of potential exposures
  • Educate the public on prevention and treatment
  • Support healthcare providers with reporting and guidance
  • Coordinate with the Indiana Department of Health on outbreak response
