Substance Abuse Prevention Program
Substance abuse, by eroding soldier fitness, becomes a personnel readiness and manpower issue for commanders, units and the organization. The Indiana National Guard’s Substance Abuse Prevention Program aims to deter substance abuse by providing service members with prevention, education and referral resources and commanders with the necessary tools to assess the security and military fitness of their units.
Our services include:
- Unit training and education, briefs and presentations
- Self-referral services
- Information on substance abuse, policies and available services and resources
- Risk inventories and reintegration-unit risk inventories

People misuse or abuse substances such as prescription drugs, alcohol and illicit drugs for varied and complicated reasons. These substances produce some form of intoxication that alters judgment, perception, attention or physical control. Substance misuse or abuse may affect your ability to be an effective and productive member of your unit. It can have severe consequences for your family, finances, health and career.
Some common warning signs that you or someone you know may be abusing drugs or alcohol include:
