Community Support

One of the highlights of service in the IGR is the service we provide directly to the community. The IGR is proud to be able to provide security or marshalling for a number of special events throughout the year. Some of our annual missions include:

The IGR also has provided security for the annual Lugar Run through its final event in 2012, and provided parade marshalling for the American Legion parade in 2012.

IGR community support is not limited to just providing security for central Indiana events, however.  IGR service members are active in all of their communities, supporting a wide variety of activities.  Such activities include: teaching Boy Scouts search & rescue (SAR) skills, to help them earn their SAR Merit Badge at Camp Challenge in Bedford; working alongside members of the U.S. Marine Corps and other volunteers as part of the annual Toys for Tots campaign in Valparaiso; and assisting the Gary Police Department with traffic control for the South Shore Air Show in Gary, Indiana.

If your organization is interested in having the IGR support your event, please review the Indiana National Guard's Community Relations Page to determine if your organization meets the eligibility requirements for support, and then submit a completed DD Form 2536 (Request for Armed Force Participation in Public Events) to the Public Affairs - Community Relations Office.

If you are looking for a way to give back to your community, consider joining the Indiana Guard Reserve!
