Professional Educator License Extensions are awarded to those who have completed an Indiana Educator Preparation Program for an original license or an addition of elementary, early childhood, or special education and have met all requirements for licensure except for the early literacy endorsement. The application for the PELE will be processed by the licensing advisor at the recommending educator preparation program.

If the above situation is applicable to you and you are applying for your first professional educator license, please see directions for Original In-State Preparatory Program.

If you are applying for an addition to your professional educator license and the situation above is applicable to you, please see instructions for Addition with Coursework and Testing.

Application Instructions for Original PELE holders:

If you hold a PELE, and do not hold another instructional professional educator’s license, and have fulfilled your early literacy requirements you will need to apply to convert your PELE to the standard professional educator’s license (PEL).

Original Emergency Permits for the current school year can only be applied for on or after July 1st.

Please go to our website page on Emergency Permits for information on the application process and directions. An emergency permit is only valid until the end of the school year, and all emergency permits expire on June 30th, regardless of when the permit was issued.

If you do not know what you need to do to obtain licensure, please contact our office by filling out a ticket in our helpdesk. Please select the topic of ‘Emergency Permit’ in the drop down.
