Outdoor Air Quality

Outdoor Air Quality

Outdoor air pollution can be defined as the presence of solids, liquids, or gases in outdoor air in amounts that are injurious or detrimental to human health and/or the environment; or that which unreasonably interferes with the comfortable enjoyment of life and/or property. Outdoor air pollution has been recognized as a source of discomfort for centuries as smoke, dust and obnoxious odors.

The Monroe County Health Department coordinates with local area Fire Departments, Law Enforcement Agencies, and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) in monitoring outdoor air quality activities.
