Each county in Indiana has different expectations when it comes to an Emergency Management Agency responding to incidents. In Marshall County, EMA is often used for resource deployment and situational awareness rather than true emergency response.
EMA doesn't put out fires, provide medical attention, or conduct law enforcement activities. Instead, we equip our public safety partners with the planning, training, and equipment they need to best respond to emergencies. In larger incidents, the EMA Director serves as the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) manager or in the Incident Command System (ICS).
Here are a few things EMA personnel can do during an emergency:
- Share Information with the Public
- Conduct Preliminary Damage Assessments
- Coordinate and Deploy Resources
- Activate EOC
- Request Mutual Aid
- Issue Disaster Declarations
- Issue Travel Advisories
- Advise Command on Best Practices
- Activate Volunteers
