CityBus is committed to providing a safe, accessible, and welcoming environment for all riders, including children, seniors, and differently abled individuals. To support that goal, the following expectations apply at all times while on CityBus property. This includes all vehicles, bus stops, shelters, stations, and other designated waiting areas or facilities operated by CityBus.
Riders are expected to treat others with respect and follow the rules outlined below. CityBus operators and staff are authorized to address conduct that is unsafe, disruptive, or disrespectful. Repeated or serious violations may result in suspension from CityBus services.
Fare and Boarding Expectations
- All riders must pay the required fare upon boarding.
- Riders using discounted fares must show valid identification when boarding.
- Front seats are reserved for seniors and differently abled individuals.
- Children must be removed from strollers while on the bus. Strollers must be folded and stored out of the aisle.
- Mobility devices must meet ADA guidelines and be secured by the operator.
- Riders must follow all instructions from CityBus staff and operators.
Time Limits and Loitering
- Riders may remain on CityBus property (including at shelters and stations) for up to 60 minutes. After that time, they must board a bus or leave the area.
- Riders may not remain on a bus for more than one full trip without paying an additional fare.
- Riders may not be on CityBus property more than 15 minutes before service begins or more than 15 minutes after service ends, unless authorized.
Conduct and Courtesy
- No threatening, aggressive, abusive, or obscene behavior.
- No offensive, discriminatory, or harassing language or actions.
- No sexual behavior or unwanted physical contact.
- No excessive noise, strong odors, or other disruptive conduct that interferes with others' ability to ride or wait comfortably.
- No sleeping on vehicles, in shelters, or at other CityBus facilities.
Personal Devices and Noise
- Use headphones when playing music or videos.
- Keep phone conversations at a reasonable volume.
- No use of amplified sound or loudspeaker devices.
Safety and Movement
- Do not run, roughhouse, or engage in unsafe behavior on buses or CityBus property.
- Walk bicycles and do not ride bikes, skateboards, or rollerblades within facilities.
- Riders must never cross directly in front of a bus after exiting.
- Do not block aisles, doorways, walkways, or shelter entrances with strollers, bicycles, scooters, carts, or personal items.
- Large or bulky items that impede safe boarding or seating are not allowed inside vehicles.
Property Use and Cleanliness
- No smoking, vaping, or use of tobacco products on CityBus vehicles or property.
- No open flames, flammable materials, or hazardous substances.
- No littering. Use provided trash bins to dispose of waste.
- No vandalism, graffiti, or damage to any CityBus property or equipment.
- CityBus property may not be used as a personal shelter.
Prohibited Items
The following are not allowed on any CityBus vehicle, facility, or property:
- Open containers of food, drink, or alcohol.
- Illegal drugs or controlled substances.
- Firearms, unlawful weapons, or explosives.
- Liquid fuels (e.g., gasoline, kerosene, lighter fluid).
- Previously used gasoline containers.
- Propane or other gas cylinders (except for medically required oxygen).
- Car batteries or unsealed liquid batteries.
(Sealed batteries in mobility devices or electronics are allowed.) - Hazardous chemicals (e.g., chlorine, bleach, turpentine, spray paint, paint strippers).
- Non-legal fireworks (as defined by local or state law).
Solicitation and Unauthorized Activity
- No solicitation, panhandling, or unauthorized vending.
- No unauthorized distribution of materials.
- No lying down or occupying more space than needed while riding or waiting.
Damage or Theft
- Damaging, defacing, or destroying CityBus vehicles, shelters, signs, or other property is prohibited.
- Theft or attempted theft of CityBus property or others’ personal belongings is not allowed and may lead to criminal charges.
