Work is scheduled to begin in April on I-65 near downtown Indianapolis.
This project is the first of many Marion County projects this summer as the Indiana Department of Transportation works to clean up the interstates after two years of harsh freeze/thaw cycles during the winter months.
Crews will be working on I-65 NB and SB in segments. They will be patching the road and repaving. Weather permitting, construction will take place on weekend nights through August.
Each weekend, one side of I-65 will be completely closed. Crews will be working northbound first, then moving southbound.
When working on northbound lanes, they will shut them down from 9 p.m. Friday to Monday at 6 a.m.
When working on southbound lanes, they will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday to Monday at 3 p.m.
The only exception is in segment 3. The north and south split will be accessible by at least one lane in both directions when crews are working in the area.
The Indiana Department of Transportation will continue construction on I-65 NB this weekend downtown. Please reference the below map for segments.
No work will take place this week on Wednesday or Thursday.
Friday, May 17
- Segment 2 (I-65 NB from 465 to the south split) will be completely closed from 9 a.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.
- Segment 3 (I-65 NB from the south split to the north split) will be completely closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.
During the full closures, drivers are encouraged to take I-465 W to I-70 E if they need to get downtown. The last exit they will be able to use to get to downtown streets on I-70 E is the Illinois St./Meridian St. exit (79B).
To get back to I-65 N, take I-465 W all the way up to I-65 N.
