HEA 1202 Registered Ministry Notice

As of July 1st, 2026, Registered Ministries are no longer required to register with IDHS but must still adhere to FSSA registration requirements.

The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) oversees childcare programs. If you are interested in becoming a childcare provider and are not sure which type of provider you qualify as, please visit the Become a Child Care Provider page on the FSSA website.

The IDHS Code Enforcement section performs inspections of different forms of childcare facilities within Indiana. While ministries are no longer required to register with IDHS, FSSA still requires adherence to FSSA registration requirements. Interested parties can view the IDHS Pre-licensing Building Code Compliance Guide for more information on steps required prior to requesting any fire maintenance inspections if desired.

Under Indiana law, a childcare ministry may choose not to provide certain fire safety protections if the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of each child is/are notified about the absence of the fire safety protections. IDHS has provided an opt-out letter template for ministries to use to inform parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of these absences if these protections are not provided.
