Indiana Electrical Code Update Committee
Meeting Information
The proposed schedule and agenda information below are subject to change based on the amount of material to be reviewed, the needs of the Committee and the availability of the proposed location. Notice will be posted on the Committee’s webpage before any Committee meeting pursuant to the requirements of the Indiana Open Door Law.
Following completion of the draft proposed rule, the Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission will review the work of the Committee, make any necessary changes and begin the rule promulgation process. This includes: (1) requesting an exemption to the rulemaking moratorium; (2) filing a notice of intent; (3) publishing the proposed rule; (4) holding a public hearing to accept public comment; (5) reviewing the public comments; (6) adopting a final rule; (7) submitting the rule to the Attorney General for review; (8) submitting the rule to the Governor for approval; and (9) filing the final rule for publication in the Indiana Register. Prior to any rule becoming effective, all these steps must be completed and the requisite approvals must be obtained.

About the Electrical Code Update Committee
The Indiana Electrical Code Update Committee (the Committee) will review proposed amendments (proposals for code change) to the 2020 edition of the NFPA 70 National Electrical Code. All proposals for code change must be submitted on the proposal for code change form. If no proposals for code change are received by the specified due date, the Committee cannot take action to amend the above-mentioned model codes, which will be deemed as a recommendation to adopt without amendment. If any proposals for code change are "tabled" by the Committee, those proposals must be resubmitted with their corrections as completely new proposals for the following meeting, and will be placed at the end of the Committee's agenda.
