Recorder
Amy Swain, Monroe County Recorder
Our office will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27.
Throughout November, the historic Monroe County Courthouse will be lit up green to honor our veterans as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans. PLEASE NOTE: Military discharges, or DD-214s, may be recorded at no charge. Copies of a veteran’s DD-214 are available at no charge to veteran or immediate family as well.
The Recorder's Office is open Monday-Friday 8AM-4PM. Closed major holidays and election days.
NOTE: To allow staff time to balance accounts at the end of the day, all documents submitted for recording must be received prior to 3:30 p.m. Documents received after 3:30 p.m. will be recorded on the next business day.
In 1816, the Office of County Recorder was the first local office created by the State of Indiana constitution. It is the primary duty of County Recorders to record instruments submitted for recording and maintain those records in perpetuity.
A County Recorder processes and stores a range of documents, most related to real estate, that are submitted for recording.
