Frequently Asked Questions
- When is the sale?
The Clermont Community Yard sale is held annually during the third weekend in May.
In 2026, the dates are:
- Friday, May 15
- Saturday, May 16
- Sunday, May 17
Residents are welcome to have a yard sale on just one, two, or all three of the days. If planning a one-day sale, the town recommends Saturday.
No official start and end times are established, but 8 a.m. is a good time for a yard sale to begin. On a typical Saturday, most yard sale traffic occurs in the morning, so most yard sales wrap up by the early afternoon.
- Where is the sale?
Yard sales may be anywhere within or near the town of Clermont, Indiana, including nearby neighborhoods. Residents are encouraged to register their yard sale in advance so the town can communicate where sales are happening during the event and help increase traffic to those sales.
- What is the Greater Clermont Community Yard Sale?
Many homeowners associations set annual dates for their residents to host yard sales to help increase traffic. To help coordinate efforts with neighborhoods within the town and in the surrounding area, the town of Clermont has established the third weekend in May as an annual time for residents to have yard sales. The town communicates and promotes the weekend to benefit all who choose to participate.
- Who can participate?
Any resident, organization, business, or neighborhood in the town of Clermont or in the immediate area surrounding Clermont may host a yard sale during the event.
The community sale is not limited to the town's legal boundaries. If you live within about 1 mile or so of the town's boundaries, then you are invited to register your yard sale on the third weekend in May. Registration is not required but may help coordination and promotion efforts.
If your homeowners association (HOA) or neighborhood association plans to use the same weekend (third weekend in May) and is within about a mile radius from Clermont, please email admin@clermont.in.gov so the town can add it to the list.
- Is there a cost?
The town requires no fees or permits to host a yard sale during the community sale.
- What if I have more questions?
Contact the town at admin@clermont.in.gov if you have questions or ideas on how to make this event better.
- Can I register my yard sale?
Yes! Please register your yard sale in advance. This helps the town plan better communications to help increase traffic to sales.
- How many yard sales will there be?
Participation varies depending on interest and weather conditions. There are no guarantees there will be many sales, but experience tells us that areas that establish consistent dates for community sales should expect to have more concentrated sales than on a random weekend.
The town expects it may take a few years for word to spread and for habits to adapt to the annual dates for the community sale. Nearby homeowners associations and neighborhoods are encouraged to align with the dates and contact the town at admin@clermont.in.gov if choosing to do so.
- Why is the sale in mid-May?
The mid-May weekend was chosen in part due to typically mild spring weather, to coincide with other neighborhoods' spring community sales, and assist with some of the traditional "spring cleaning" habits our residents have. A 2024 online survey issued by the town also indicated May as a preferred month.
- Will there be signs?
The town will place promotional signage in highly visible areas of town, and other participating homeowners associations plan to do the same in their neighborhoods, but residents are still encouraged to install temporary signs and post them at intersections.
