Since its inception more than 10 years ago, IN.gov has evolved in name, look and purpose. The snapshot history below will give you a sense of the progress that IN.gov has made over the past 12 years.
1995
accessIndiana, the moniker of IN.gov until 2006, launched in 1995 and offered only one online service - BMV driver license searches. Its simple design is representative of the early stages of Web design and development.
1996
The following year, additional graphics helped "fill out" the new design while accessIndiana's online services library continued to grow with the addition of a few more BMV services, including registration and title searches.
1997
1997 brought accessIndiana's first online citizen services - DNR water permits and HPB license verification searches. 1997 also brought another new look. The green background with blue navigation represented both Indiana's state colors and its love of agriculture.
1998
In 1998, accessIndiana lost it's green background but gained a bevy of online services, including several SOS business services, ISDH verification searches and DOR's I-File.
1999-2000
To prepare for its leap into the 21st century, accessIndiana adapted a cosmic look and began the transition from agency architecture to category architecture, the start of the customer-centric IN.gov. Additionally, one of that state's most popular online services, BMV registration renewal, was made available to the public.
2001 - 2003
In 2001, Indiana was the first state to attempt a common look and feel initiative. Information across accessIndiana was presented with similar design, structure and navigation, allowing site visitors to easily navigate through the site. accessIndiana also began accepting credit card payments for online services - a convenience that is still exciting to many Hoosier citizens and businesses today. accessIndian's efforts earned 1st place in the Brown University e-Government Study in 2001 and 4th place in 2002 and 3rd place in 2003 in the Center for Digital Excellence Best of Web Competition.
2004
accessIndiana's online service offerings grew even more with the launch of the nation's first online certified record and verification search for driving records and the health professional license renewal service that realized a 70% adoption rate in its first year. Indiana's official Web site also climbed the charts in the Best of Web Competition when it was awarded 2nd place in 2004.
2005 - 2006
Through 2005 and 2006, accessIndiana redesigned again resulting in its current look.
In 2006, Indiana's official Web site gradually became IN.gov, a re-branding initiative that brings us to the current CMS implementation and IN.gov constitency efforts.
