Case Study
The DNR Division of Forestry (DOF) was using a legacy Lotus 123 application to support its tree seedling process. Lotus 123 has been discontinued and technology which could no longer be supported.
DNR engaged Indiana Office of Technology (IOT) Application Development program to build a custom, web-based application that would replace the current Lotus 123 system. IOT provided the resources for analysis, design, and development and began the discovery process for solutioning the desired system.
The legacy Lotus 123 program was successfully replaced with a secure, modernized, data-driven web application built on a standardized .NET framework. Additional benefits include data dashboards and reporting within the web application thereby engaging proactive involvement of forestry personnel.

Testimonials
“The biggest advantage thus far using our Seedling Inventory Management System (SIMS) app is time saved on data entry. Our old system was 30 years old and spreadsheet based. So, the difference is like night and day. We are still developing and tweaking reporting so we know there will be more advantages in reporting.”
- Al Schumaker, Indiana Department of Natural Resources
“Our application has been successful in maintaining our inspection, testing, and permitting information as we are required by state and federal mandates. The IOT Application Development team is very responsive, accessible and address our concerns in a very timely fashion.

“No one deliberately thinks about state forms, until there is a problem with state forms. State forms are the starting point for requests for state services or access to resources. Since 1979, the Indiana Archives and Records Administration has been statutorily tasked with managing Indiana state forms. In 2023, the public facing application serving as an access point for state forms was in a need of an overhaul due to statutory changes and the rapidly changing business needs of agencies. Thanks to IOT’s Application Development team, they made changes to improve the functionality and operability of the State Forms Catalog and Repository to give state agencies more control over managing their forms and publishing the forms to the web.”
-S. Chandler Lighty – Executive Director, Indiana Archives and Records Administration
