Mike Heitmann enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2003. He served as an infantryman with two combat deployments to Fallujah Iraq. After his enlistment, Mike began his law enforcement career with the Santa Ana Police Department (California). During his 15-year career there, Mike served as a patrol officer, K-9 Handler, SWAT officer and Defensive tactics instructor.
After relocating to Indiana in 2020, Mike spent two years with the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department.
Mike has been training in mixed martial arts for 20 years and received his black belt in Jiu Jitsu in 2019.
When not at the academy or in the gym, Mike can be found at home spending time with his wife and two children.
