Employee Recognition Awards Nominations Open

IDOH is excited to kick off one of our favorite traditions — celebrating YOU! In honor of Public Health Week, we are officially opening nominations for the Employee Recognition Awards.

This is your chance to shine a spotlight on the incredible teammates who go above and beyond every day. Think of the colleague who jumps in without being asked, brings positive energy to the toughest days, or consistently makes our work and our workplace better. If someone came to mind just now … nominate them!NPHW logo

Nominations are open now through 5 p.m. on March 24 and can be submitted through this link. We encourage everyone to take a moment to recognize an outstanding teammate who deserves to be celebrated.

Thank you for everything you do to support our mission and each other. We can’t wait to read your nominations and celebrate the amazing people who make our department stronger every single day.

Let the nominations begin! 🎉

Your participation is valuable! All staff members are expected to attend unless you have a previously scheduled meeting set by external partners.

How do I participate?

Conversations with the Commissioner

What has no smell, you can’t see or taste it, but is the second leading cause of lung cancer?

It's radon, and January is National Radon Action Month. For the first Conversation with the Commissioner of 2026, Lead and Healthy Homes Director Paul Krievins showed me how we can protect ourselves from this colorless, tasteless and odorless gas that forms naturally as a result of the decay of uranium and radium found in rocks and soil. Radium eventually decays into radon gas, causing damage to lungs when inhaled.

Exposure to radon is a serious public health concern in Indiana and the second leading cause of lung cancer. IDOH recommends that all Indiana residents test their homes for radon every 2-5 years.

Take a look at this video to learn more. Great information, Paul!
