Ben (Benjamin) Roe was a former employee of Indiana Interactive and friend of the IN.gov portal that passed away on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the age of 40. He played a large role in shaping the early website designs for IN.gov and helped improve the State government's online presence in the mid-2000s. He later worked with the City of Indianapolis where he played a vital role in their website and brand.
This page is in remembrance of Ben and his impact he had on everyone at IN.gov and the State of Indiana.
Ben was a great person. It was refreshing to work with him as he was completely dedicated to his craft. He was an innovator with the ability to deliver modern design with a keen focus on the customer interaction. Robert Paglia, Chief Administrative Officer at Indiana Office of Technology
More than a decade ago, we began to transform IN.gov to a fresh, modern, and uniform design. Back then, the idea was bold and new, and it simply never have been accomplished without Ben Roe. Ben brought to our team a unique and incredible sense of design, creativity, and ability to collaborate. He delivered time and time again with designs that were fresh, fun, and aligned to our business objectives. His designs became the new IN.gov. Later, when I worked at the City of Indianapolis, we brought Ben in to transform indy.gov. Once again, but with a new and different team and different requirements of many kinds, Ben delivered a new design, which was in place for a decade! Because of Ben’s important contributions, countless Hoosier lives have been improved. I am personally grateful to have worked with Ben, and I thank God for his time here with us. Chris W. Cotterill, Former Director of IN.gov & Chief of Staff to Mayor Gregory A. Ballard
It’s hard to say a few words about Ben. Hard to contain the experience of knowing him with words at all. I was lucky enough to work with him for a year, a lifetime or two ago. As we will all say, he was wildly and elegantly creative, funny, and genuine. Ben, perhaps, lived too tenuously on the surface of this earth, struggled some, as we all do, but man, he had an impact. My last conversation with him was when my wife was pregnant with our seven year old – too long ago. The whole conversation can’t be shared, but no one would be surprised to know that the self-proclaimed Jedi Nerd covered Star Wars, a business idea that would allow him to focus on great design and a description of the last 6 vintage motorcycles he’d built since I left Indy. You’ll be missed Ben, Godspeed brother. Fred Sargeson, Former General Manager at Indiana Interactive
It was inspiring to work with someone so early in my career who had as much drive and determination as Ben. He was out to conquer the world, one design at a time. His influence will continue to have an impact on me, and for that, I am grateful. Andrew Hoff, Director of Operations & Marketing at Indiana Interactive
Ben was a creative young man who assisted in shaping the front door of the State of Indiana Government’s online presence. He will be remembered for his smile, his laugh and his passion of creative freedom and adventure not only through his work, but also in the path he carved throughout the journey of his life. Paul VandenBussche, Director of eCommerce at Indiana Interactive
