Fire Department Application Information

You have taken the first step in becoming a member of an organization
that has served the community for over 100 years.


Printed applications are available for pickup at the Alexandria Fire Department or Alexandria City Hall, located at 125 N. Wayne St., Alexandria, IN 46001.

The application must be submitted by email to firechief@cityofalexandria.in.gov no later than 5:00 p.m. on November 21, 2025.

FIRE DEPARTMENT APPLICATION

BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  • 1977 PERF Requirements
  • United States Citizen
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Valid Indiana Drivers License
  • No Felony Convictions
  • Minimal Certifications - EMT-Basic, Indiana Firefighter I & II
  • Valid CPAT card within the last year (Not required for Lateral Transfer)
BENEFITS

    • The Anthem Medical Insurance Family Plan costs $70.00 per month, which includes medical, dental, and life insurance.  (Vision plan is optional)
  • 1977 PERF Requirements
  • Longevity beginning at year two (2)
  • IAFF and PFFUI Membership Available
  • Aggressive ALS EMS Protocols
  • Paramedic pay 8% of base salary
  • $1,000 Clothing allowance after year one (1)
  • 9 Vacation days & 7 sick days after one (1) year
  • Incentive pay up to 6% of base salary
LATERAL HIRE
  • Must be a member of the 1977 Fund
  • $5,000 BONUS after the first year on top of 8% Paramedic pay / 2% Advanced EMT
  • 1:1 ratio, max of 10 years of service
