Fire Department Application Information

You have taken the first step in becoming a member of an organization
that has served the community for over 100 years.


Printed applications are available while visiting the Alexandria Fire Department or Alexandria City Hall at 125 N. Wayne St., Alexandria, IN 46001.

The application must be submitted by email to firechief@cityofalexandria.in.gov no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 26, 2024.  Interviews will be conducted in May 2024, with a date to be determined.

A conditional offer will be made on June 3rd.  CPAT card due no later than 4:00 p.m. on June 3, 2024

FIRE DEPARTMENT APPLICATION

BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  • United States Citizen
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Valid Indiana Drivers License
  • No Felony Convictions
  • Minimal Certifications - EMT-Basic, Indiana Mandatory Firefighter
  • Valid CPAT card within the last year (Not required for Lateral Transfer)
BENEFITS
  • 50,000 Salary after first year

    • United Health Care's Family Plan is $70.00 monthly, including medical, dental, and life insurance.  (Vision plan is optional)
  • 1977 PERF Requirements
  • Longevity beginning at year two (2)
  • IAFF and PFFUI Membership Available
  • Aggressive ALS EMS Protocols
  • Paramedic pay 8% of base salary
  • $1,000 Clothing allowance after year one (1)
  • 9 Vacation days & 7 sick days after one (1) year
  • Incentive pay up to 6% of base salary
  • Advanced EMT incentives
LATERAL HIRE
  • Must be a member of the 1977 Fund
  • $5,000 BONUS after the first year on top of 8% Paramedic pay
    • For Firefighter/Paramedic Lateral transfers
  • 2:1 ratio max of 5 years of service
