    CITY APPLICATION

    This is a semi-skilled full-time position under the Street Commissioner of The Street Department.  All employees are responsible to the Street Commissioner. The work requires maintaining the right-of-ways, easements, and other City-owned property. The employee will perform other related work as needed, some of which will be mechanical.

    The employee will operate and maintain light-duty vehicles, dump trucks, weed eaters, chainsaws, shovels, and various mechanized and non-mechanized hand tools.

    Work is usually performed outdoors within the Alexandria city limits, and some takes may be required during periods of bad weather. The employee will be exposed to loud, noised, mechanized equipment, dirt, dust, rain, sleet, snow, heat, chemicals, and foul odors. This position requires a great deal of physical exertion during extreme weather conditions.

    QualificationsMust be at least 18 years of ageMust know and/or have the ability to learn occupational hazards and safety precautions.
     High school diploma or GED preferred: Education may be waived by work experience.Must be able to report for work on time and perform the job duties for the entire workday.
     Must possess a valid driver's license in the State of Indiana with the ability to operate a motor vehicle safelyMust be able to work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work required
     Must be legally authorized to work within the United States of AmericaMust be able to perform frequent overtime work, which may involve late night or early morning hours.
     Must pass a pre-employment Drug/alcohol screenMust have the sufficient physical strength and ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move, and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds and to repeatedly lift, move, and carry objects more than 100 pounds with assistance.
     Must be semi-skilled in mechanicsEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and communicate effectively and positively with the public.
     Must have knowledge of and/or the ability to learn about the care and proper use of tools and equipment used in the maintenance of right-of-way and easements.The ability to use good judgment while performing job-related takes
