Environmental Consultation

Representatives from federal, state, and local environmental, natural resource, and land management agencies met with NIRPC on December 16, 2010 to establish an environmental consultation process for proposed transportation projects.   Participants reviewed a list of federal and state documents, maps, and plans recommended by NIRPC for inclusion in the Environmental Mitigation section of the 2040 CRP.  Transportation project categories identified as being appropriate for environmental review by the Environmental Consultation Team (ECT) include: capacity expansion, intersection improvements, bridges, drainage, roadway preservation projects that include culvert or drainage repair and replacement, and other.  Additionally seven common environmental features were selected as priorities during the review process including wetlands, lakes and streams, Indiana waters designated for special protection, forestlands, ETR species & high quality natural communities, managed lands, and cultural resources.
