Education and Workforce Development

The Education and Workforce Development (EWD) database is a large-scale data matching initiative within MPH.  This longitudinal data set is combined to answer key questions about the education and workforce pipeline.  It allows stakeholders such as education professionals, employers, policymakers, students, community leaders, and the public to use data and information previously not available.  Today, partner agencies include the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, the Indiana Department of Education, the Department of Workforce Development, and the Family and Social Services Administration.  EWD does not replace agency data collection and administration responsibilities; rather, it serves as a clearinghouse where specific data elements are linked across the four agencies.

Pathways to Success

Data linking between educational agencies facilitates the discussion about the postsecondary education success pipeline for Hoosier students. The graphic to the left displays the college going rate of Indiana’s high school cohort for years 2012-2015 and also displays the most frequent sectors of enrollment among college enrollees. The graphic also provides an institutional breakout for those who enroll in Indiana public institutions. The power of data linking between educational agencies is showcased in Indiana’s College Readiness Reports which provide information about Indiana students’ college access and performance (reports: ; dashboard: ). College enrollment data outside of Indiana public colleges are supplemented with further data linking with the National Student Clearinghouse.

Education & Workforce Pipeline

Through the linkage of education and workforce data, the information can be utilized to showcase trends in the education and workforce pipeline in Indiana.

The chart on the right shows the top 10 degrees obtained in Indiana public colleges and universities for 2016.  It also shows the average starting salary of graduates for each degree type.
