Pathways to Success
Data linking between educational agencies facilitates the discussion about the postsecondary education success pipeline for Hoosier students. The graphic to the left displays the college going rate of Indiana’s high school cohort for years 2012-2015 and also displays the most frequent sectors of enrollment among college enrollees. The graphic also provides an institutional breakout for those who enroll in Indiana public institutions. The power of data linking between educational agencies is showcased in Indiana’s College Readiness Reports which provide information about Indiana students’ college access and performance (reports: http://www.in.gov/che/2489.htm ; dashboard: http://www.in.gov/che/4553.htm ). College enrollment data outside of Indiana public colleges are supplemented with further data linking with the National Student Clearinghouse.
School Corporation Fiscal Indicators
On January 1, 2019, the Indiana Distressed Unit Appeals Board (DUAB), with support from MPH, publicly debuted the School Corporation Fiscal Indicators dashboard. This interactive dashboard powered by Tableau allows the public to see financial indicators for public school corporations in easy to understand visualizations. Filtering options allow for customized viewing.
Originally requested by the General Assembly in HEA 1315, project development and implementation was completed in less than six months. MPH provided consultation on data availability and appropriate indicators, as well as leading efforts on the dashboard development. Input was provided by the Financial Indicators Committee which includes representation from Department of Education, State Budget Agency, State Board of Accounts, Department of Local Government Finance, Indiana Association of School Business Officials and MPH.
The goal of the dashboard is to identify the financial condition of each school corporation to allow for proactive support for struggling corporations. To view the School Corporation Fiscal Indicators dashboard, visit www.in.gov/duab/2386.htm.
