Biographical Note:

Capt. David L. Elliott was born in Randolph County, North Carolina in 1835. Eventually Elliot moved to Salamonie Township, Huntington County, Indiana in 1844. With the outbreak of Civil War, Elliott enlisted into the Union Army on April 18, 1861, and re-enlisted in August 1862. Elliott served in Indiana Co. E. 75th Regiment, under Capt. David Wall. After the war, Elliott married Martha Morrison in 1865. The couple had three children: George, Rufus, and Milton.

Scope and Content Note:

The collection contains Civil War materials of David L. Elliot. Included are family correspondence, discharge papers, family photos, bible, receipts, distribution rolls, certificates, ribbons of reunions, political campaign badges, and a Civil War diary (1864 – 1865). The collection also contains a history of the Battle of Chickamauga by Capt. J.C. McElroy.
