Pro-Train, Inc., an acknowledged leader in post-academy law enforcement training, offers this seminar to advance the road officer’s professional training to ‘state-of-the-art’ levels.
A brief historical foundation of use of force is followed by a critical examination of the ‘force continuum.’ Seminal U.S. Supreme Court cases are examined, as well as current case law from the U.S. Supreme Court, the 7th Circuit, and Indiana.

Use of Force - the Real Judicial Rules for 21st Century Law Enforcement examines the major legal concepts supporting use of force by LEOs; it also examines and analyzes current ‘hot button topics in the use of force area.
The very essence of a law enforcement officer is the ability to use force to gain compliance with laws and orders.  Pro Train, Inc., an acknowledged leader in post-academy law enforcement training, offers this seminar to advance the road officer’s professional training to ‘state-of-the-art’ levels.  A brief historical foundation of use of force is followed by a critical examination of the ‘force continuum.’ Seminal U.S. Supreme Court cases are examined, as well as current case law from the U.S. Supreme Court, the 7th Circuit, and Indiana.  ‘Hot button’ use of force topics, including ‘choke holds’ and proportionality, are scrutinized with tips and suggestions for avoiding civil and criminal liability.  (Please note that, due to the ever-changing nature of this subject, the ‘hot button’ topics will vary from time to time.) Finally, the topic of qualified immunity for police officers is reviewed.  This may be the most crucial classroom training that a LEO could attend.

Indiana Police Supervisor Core Course (IPS Core)
Course Overview
The IPS Core is designed to be a hard-hitting two-day course to provide the police supervisor with a basic leadership model and an overview of police liability and police discipline. Incorporated into this two-day core will be a methodology to begin developing a leadership philosophy and a unit expectation dialogue.
Day One is spent examining the five practices and ten commitments of exemplary leadership as developed by Kouzes and Posner. Police leaders will come away with a five-part leadership model. A portion of this day is also spent on an exercise to help develop a personal leadership philosophy. The morning of Day Two will be spent re-examining general concepts that expose leaders and those they have thee honor to lead to liability. The first line supervisor is one of the most controlling influences that can diminish the exposure to liability in the police setting. The afternoon on Day Two is spent exploring a holistic approach to police discipline. It emphasizes knowing what is normal about those you guide and direct so that you know when attendance performance or behavior is other than normal. The key in this approach is intervening as soon as issues can be articulated.
The Indiana Police Supervisor Core is a quick but detailed look at three components of police leadership that are at the center of how the critical supervisory ranks lead their people.
Day       Course Topic                                               Instructor
1          Leadership Challenge a Leadership Model  Jowitt

2 pm    Holistic Police Discipline                               Jowitt

Indiana Case Law That All Cops Need to Know
The days of police officers relying on “what we’ve heard” and leaning on “we’ve always done it that way” are over! Police officers must know what the courts have deemed acceptable procedure in order to perform their duties in a constitutionally compliant manner in today’s modern policing. Having an in-depth knowledge of case law will lay the foundation to empower all police officers to perform their jobs confidently and legally. Throughout this course intended for Indiana police officers, Instructor Mike Brazil will examine, review, and explain significant U.S. Supreme Court and Indiana State Specific Case Law that is relevant to search and seizure. The goal of this course is to demonstrate how this case law can affect how police officers must perform their duties. Brazil will teach students how to avoid evidence exclusion, increase convictions, and reduce civil liability, and he will share his own personal experiences of actively applying case law to his policing.
Furthermore, “Indiana Case Law That All Cops Need to Know” breaks down the complex issues associated with case law and presents them in an easily understandable format for all police officers to use in the field to achieve their investigative goals. Additionally, all the students attending the course will be given all the materials for this course so they will be able to reference cases during their duties.

Course Description- All Things K-9 is a class designed to highlight the potential and capabilities of a K-9 team. Instructor Josh Brainard will
give current K-9 handlers a fresh perspective and deeper understanding of all things K-9. Not only will this class help all

alongside K-9 Teams. Supervisors will gain a better understanding of how to support these valuable resources and
prevent liability against their units. For those police officers with aspirations to become a K-9 handler, this class will
give them a jump start to understand the science of the craft!
