November 15, 2021
Leadership for the Winning Mind addresses the critical truth that “leadership” is not the function of a particular rank within an agency but what any individual does with the position they are in. This program identifies and explores the skills each of us needs to bring out the best in ourselves and in others.
Dave “JD Buck Savage” Smith and his wife Sgt. Betsy Brantner Smith examine the traits found in some of the greatest leaders ever known and help students apply those characteristics and skills to their own situations.
Attendees will gain an awareness that they must show “leadership” whether they are talking to a crime victim, dispatching a call, arriving at a chaotic scene, training a recruit, speaking to the media, leading an entry team, running a staff meeting or managing an entire organization. This awareness is a major step in recognizing your critical role in the success of your agency’s mission, no matter what your position, rank, or function within the organization. This program is presented in a fast-paced, one day format filled with interaction, videos, real world resources, and of course, humor.

Understanding Police Use of Force - The Real Rules (1 Day)
Cost: $199.00
The very essence of a law enforcement officer is the ability to use force to gain compliance with laws and orders. Pro-Train, Inc., an acknowledged leader in post-academy law enforcement training, offers this seminar to advance the road officer’s professional training to ‘state-of-the-art’ levels. A brief historical foundation of use of force is followed by a critical examination of the ‘force continuum’. Seminal U.S. Supreme Court cases are examined, as well as current case law from the U.S. Supreme Court, the 7th Circuit, and Indiana. ‘Hot button’ use of force topics, including ‘choke holds’ and proportionality, are also scrutinized with tips and suggestions for avoiding civil and criminal liability. (Please note that, due to the ever-changing nature of this subject, the ‘hot button’ topics will vary from time to time.) Finally, the topic of qualified immunity for police officers is reviewed. This may very well be the most important training that a LEO could attend.

Safety & Health Integration in the Enforcement of Laws on Drugs (SHIELD)
Protecting those who serve during the overdose crisis Police officers are on the front lines of many public health crises. They've been asked to take on new roles and responsibilities in response to overdose and other emerging challenges. This carries new occupational safety risks – but usually without adequate tools or training. These demands compound the stress officers are accumulating from unprecedented levels of public scrutiny and social upheaval as well as the day-to-day pressures of policing. The SHIELD Training Initiative fills this gap, providing law enforcement with the tools they need to safeguard their physical and mental wellbeing, improve community relations, and more effectively accomplish their public safety mission.
