IDEM supports Indiana homeowners with practical information and programs that protect both your property and the environment. IDEM oversees programs related to wastewater systems, asbestos, air quality, stormwater, and waste disposal, and provides easy access to records, maps, and tools to help residents understand and manage environmental conditions around their homes.

- Weatherizing can decrease a home's annual heating consumption by up to 20% and annual energy consumption by up to seven percent.
- Lead and asbestos are dangerous substances that may be present in older homes. Lead can come from pipes in your home or paint on walls, windows, or doors.

- Understanding and protecting your drinking water
- The Drinking Water Viewer provides information about public water systems including sample results, contact information, and sample schedules.
- If you're on a private well for your drinking water, find out how to test your water and keep your well properly maintained.
Air Quality
- The Office of Air Quality produces daily SmogWatch forecasts for ozone and fine particulates.
- When persistent negative air quality conditions are forecast, IDEM will call an Air Quality Action Day. AQAD advisories specify the groups most likely to be affected based on recommendations from the (U.S. EPA) Air Quality Index.

Recycling and Waste Disposal
- Citizens are responsible for properly disposing of their household hazardous waste and electronic waste in an environmentally responsible manners. Find out where and how by contacting your local Solid Waste Management District.

Records, Resources and Tools
- IDEM provides 24/7 access to more than 2 million agency public records through its Virtual File Cabinet (VFC).
- IDEM’s What’s in My Neighborhood interactive map allows users to search by address, zip code, or city and find information on environmental activities, contaminated sites, landfills, and Superfund sites in an area.
