Drinking Water Field Inspections

The Inspection Section assists public water systems (PWS) with operations and maintenance to ensure they produce safe drinking water and meet the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act. The field inspectors routinely perform inspections at all PWS. These inspections include a review of the source, treatment, distribution system, storage, monitoring programs, operator certification, and the overall management and operation of the PWS. If deficiencies are found, corrective actions are required and inspection staff follow up to check that proper corrective measures have been taken to resolve these deficiencies. If a PWS detects a contaminant in their water, drinking water staff provide technical assistance to help correct the issue(s). Inspectors also assist water systems to comply with the location and construction of a new well.
