There are over 4,000 public water systems (PWS) in Indiana. These systems range from schools and utilities to rural restaurants and churches. Public water systems must check their water often for bacteria and unsafe chemicals and send the test results to IDEM. The water can become unsafe when pipes crack, water softeners are not cleaned, chemicals are spilled near the well, or contaminants backflow into the water systems.
Utilities provide annual compliance reports about their water to their customers. Please contact your local water utility for a copy of this report.
