Why Subcommittees?

The Indiana Cultural Commission includes four statutory subcommittees established through HEA 1003. These subcommittees help ensure that communities across Indiana continue to have representation, engagement, and a dedicated voice within the Commission’s work.

Under Indiana law, each subcommittee must meet at least twice each year and provide an annual report to the full Commission. Each subcommittee focuses on issues affecting the communities it represents while supporting the Indiana Cultural Commission’s mission to promote collaboration, cultural understanding, and opportunity throughout the state.

About the Subcommittees:

The Indiana Cultural Commission carries forward the work of Indiana’s former cultural commissions through four standing subcommittees:

  • Black Hoosier Affairs
  • Hispanic & Latino Affairs
  • Hoosier Women Concerns
  • Native American Indian Affairs

Each subcommittee includes commissioners appointed by the Chairperson who represent the communities served by that subcommittee.
