Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Database

The database is in an ASCII delimited by semicolon format in a zipped file. The enclosed report defines the data in each of the 50 fields to assist you in developing your own database.

To unzip the file:

  1. Download the file BPVACTIVE.zip by clicking the link below.
  2. If necessary, select Save on the prompt "Would you like to open the file or save to your computer?"
  3. Select the directory you want (example: C\) and select Save.
  4. BPVACTIVE database will download into the directory you have chosen.

There will be three files inside the zip file, the datafile (BPVACTIVE.txt) and the instruction files (bpvreadmenet.doc and bpvreadmenet.txt). Due to the size of the database, you should first open the application you are going to use (such as Access) and then open the database file from the application.

If you have any questions, please contact the Boilers and Pressure Vessels section at 317-232-2222 or bpv@dhs.in.gov.
